Questions and Answers

  • I won my judgment. Why won’t the court help me?

The court gave you the judgment. Now they are a tool that can be used by you, your attorney, or a judgment enforcer to attempt to collect. But like any tool, they do not accomplish any task on their own. They require the hand of someone who knows how to use them to get the results we want.

  • Do I have to pay anything upfront?

99% of the time you will pay nothing upfront. All costs will be deducted from what we recover. If we cannot recover anything, you still owe nothing. We only request you to spend any money when 1) you are trying to collect on a judgment, from another state, in California. This requires that the judgment be domesticated and that can cost $400 to $800. 2) If the judgment is too small. Costs to investigate a debtor add up quickly, but instead of not helping those with small judgments we just require a small $ 125 set-up fee to be paid upfront. When we recover any money, we use that money to a) reimburse any court-related approved expenses and then 2) to reimburse you of the $ 125 fee. For more information just ask us to send you a sample contract.

  • How soon will I get my money?

Each judgment is different. Some will be collected quickly, others may take years, and yet others may not be enforceable at all. Because of the backlog with the courts, sheriffs, etc., you should not expect to see any money for 6 months or so (unless we get extremely lucky).

  • How long is my judgment good for?

Judgments have different life spans depending on which state they come from. In California your judgment is good for 10 years, from the date that it was entered, and can be renewed for another 10 years for as long as you want to.

  • Can you guarantee that you will collect my money?

Anyone that guarantees you that they can collect on a judgment is pulling your leg. Collecting the money will depend on many factors that are out of our control. But remember, we only make money if we can collect the funds so we are all in the same boat and have the same goals.

  • What area do you cover?

Affirmative Judgment works primarily in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino. We have worked cases as far as San Diego and Lake Tahoe but they have to be of a large dollar amount for us to go that far.

  • Are you a collection company?

We are not a collection company. Collection companies work on volume. They will send out letters and make phone calls to try and convince the debtor to pay what they owe you. While that may work with some debtors, the chances are small for recovery.
